Don’t say it.
If you speak, they will know.
They will hate you.
They will judge you.
Shove it down.
You will never be good enough.
Lies. These are ALL lies from the enemy. He wickedly desires that we not only hear these lies but allow them to seep into our souls, poisoning our hearts & minds, restricting our breath, & corroding the lock on the prison door.
We all have one…. a memory, an act, something we regret or feel deeply ashamed of. It’s the “if anyone knew…” secret. Our secrets are all different yet have two things in common: they are all related to sin & they all are used by the enemy to keep us living in bondage.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”Romans 3:23
What if I told you telling your secret was better than hiding? You most likely are breathing rapidly, panicking a little, thinking “she is crazy” right? Let’s see what God’s word says about this. Psalm 143:3 says “For the enemy has persecuted my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me dwell in darkness, Like those who have long been dead.” This is where the enemy has you, this is where he wants to keep you. 1 John 1:7 says “But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” this is where you can be! This is where you want to be. This is where Jesus is.
If we allow the enemy to convince us to hide our sin, & loathe in our shame, he will crush us down to the ground penetrating every area of our heart & life. Jesus ushers us into His light, seeking out our sin. A flashlight in the mighty hand of God shining light into every corner of our heart, exposing what we’ve hidden, cleaning out the cobwebs that cloud our mind, disposing of the bags of trash we carry. We are cleaned. We are restored.
Recently, I brought my darkness into the light. For the first time, without a screen, I spoke of my abortion in front of a church audience, not once, but three times. I exposed my deepest DARKEST secret to many faces, to screens, facebook, to vimeo, to whoever decided to attend, click, listen. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. Judgment, rejection, gossip, these all lingered in the air. I paced. I was shaky. I was sweating profusely. You want to know what happened? The Holy Spirit took over. I survived.
“For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”Ephesians 5: 8-11
Women & men came forward confessing their abortions, barreling into my arms desperate to drop their shame at the feet of Jesus. I was hugged. I was thanked. Tears stained my sweater & my eyes. Prayers were said. Prayers were answered. What happened was satan was defeated. The light of Jesus out shown the darkness of the enemies lies! What is greater? God didn’t stop there! Nearly two weeks later & I am still receiving messages, texts, hugs, comments, they use words like thank you, bravery, powerful, etc. My overwhelmed heart has been stirred rigorously to continue to speak truth, to bring the darkness into the light!
Through my words all I wanted to do, & will continue to do, is point YOU, the reader, the listener, to the forgiveness & grace of Jesus Christ while giving all praise & glory to God! Are you ready? Are you tired? Run as fast as you can, don’t think twice, bring all your darkness into His light, throw your shame down at His feet!

Shame can go there too
I know whose I am
God, I belong to You!”Song: Prophecy Your Promise By: Bryan & Katie Torwalt
